I have been floundering. But, something fun did happen yesterday, worthy of telling. I had a date! My Cousin introduced us months ago, and I must say I immediately warmed up to him, but have been so preoccupied with Jake, and Scott, and Chino etc. and the whole internet dating thing, and work...you get the picture, that an actual nice, gentle, caring, kind man slipped through the cracks. However he did not go unnoticed. In fact, I had entertained the thought of us cuddled up in front of the television while I twirled a strand of thick wavy long black hair around my index finger. He had fallen asleep in one of my cousin's chairs after a grueling day at the hospital and as I watched his chest rising and falling my eyes fell upon the sweetness of his face as he lay sleeping, I even wondered what it would be like to kiss his supple looking lips. I touched a soft tendril that hung right above his eye and the tiniest of noises escaped his lips as they curled up into a peaceful smile, he continued sleeping. And all this before we ever went out on a date! So the date which was a result of him asking my cousin if I was seeing anyone, began with me still trying to dry my hair as I ran to the door. Upon entering he explained that his mother taught him to never go to someone's house empty handed, I almost cringed at the thought of roses being produced from behind his back, instead was presented with a miniature Ice Bats Hockey stick! Apparantly some of the Austin hockey team were at the hospital in the pediatrics ward and he managed to get them to sign it for me. If his goal was my heart, he scored one! He is very interested in what I like and wanted to know what vegetarian food was like, so off we went to the grocery store, in his red Mustang. I was pleased with the conversation about the patients that he cares for at the hospital, so much so that I almost went all misty eyed when he told me about this one elderly lady in particular who burst into tears and just had to hug him for being such a "Superman" after being transfered to another ward. Watching him describe that moment as one of the high points of what he does filled me with hope, because for each horrible story we hear about how patients are mistreated, there is a good one like that! If he hadn't been driving in freezing rain, I would've jumped in his lap and planted one on his cheek right then and there.
